Undergraduate

The School of Health Sciences offers four bachelor's degrees and one associate's degree programs. Our outstanding and dedicated faculty offer the instruction, mentorship, tools and hands-on learning experiences to help you succeed.

Communication Disorders and Sciences

Our Communication Disorders and Sciences (CDS) program specializes in the area of speech-language pathology. Speech-language pathologists are professionals educated in the study of human communication, its development, and its disorders. Students in the CDS program study normal communication as well as procedures for assessment and intervention of persons with communication disorders.

Dental Hygiene

We are home to the oldest dental hygiene school in Illinois and we are the state's only dental hygiene bachelor’s degree program. You will get valuable experience working in our on-site clinic and at off-site rotations, developing the professional skills you need to provide quality care to the community.

Health Care Management

Our Health Care Management program prepares you for a variety of health care career opportunities in the health management or health policy fields in settings including hospitals, physician practices, nursing homes, rural health centers, and pharmaceutical companies.

Mortuary Science and Funeral Service

SIU Carbondale offers the only accredited bachelor's degree program of its kind in Illinois. Our program provides you  the insight and skills essential to enter the mortuary science/funeral service profession.  Our curriculum places an emphasis on funeral practice regulations, grief counseling and funeral home management as well as a funeral director’s responsibilities in helping families during their greatest time of need.

Nursing

You probably know that opportunities in health care are on the rise, and that registered nurses are in high demand. We offer three tracks; the Traditional BSN Four-Year Program, the RN to BSN Degree Completion and the Accelerated BSN track. Earning your Traditional or RN to BSN degree will also earn you a minor in Health Care Management.

Radiologic Sciences

You will receive training for a variety of diagnostic imaging exams in a program that provides the only bachelor’s degree in this field in Illinois. The nation’s increasing health care needs will put a premium on program specialties in radiation therapy, medical diagnostic sonography (ultrasound) or magnetic resonance imaging/computed tomography (MRI/CT) each with its own accreditation, educational and clinical training requirements.

Rehabilitation Services

Our Rehabilitation Services students will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals with disabilities to obtain and maintain meaningful employment, to live as independently as possible, to participate to the fullest extent possible in their communities, and to assume control of their lives.

Physical Therapist Assistant

Our two-year Physical Therapist Assistant program prepares you for a career that is in high demand.  In fact, our graduates benefit from a 100 percent job placement rate. Our curriculum incorporates hands-on clinical experience.
