HCM participates in the University Honors Program. The program offers unique educational experiences to participating students. It may include seminars, special sections of certain classes and independent study.
All HCM students complete an internship, ranging from 2 to 9 credit hours, to acquire practical experience in health care management. The internships are valuable learning experiences and are a required part of degree requirements. No waviers for the internship are permitted. Read more about this program.
Student Services and Activities
Many HCM students are active in the Student Health Care Management Association. The organization brings health care leaders to SIU to meet students and organizes special events or trips to industry related meetings when available and possible. HCM students also may earn opportunities to gain valuable experience through volunteer work with organizations on campus and in the community.
First-year students and sophomores in CASA who have not yet officially declared their major in HCM receive academic advising from a pre-major advisor, who also advises junior and senior students. The professional advisor is knowledgeable about the curriculum and career issues in HCM and serves as an excellent resource for students.
